Gala Round Up!
The competitive season has really kicked off for Neptune – our swimmers have been busy in action over the past few weeks. Here’s a brief run-down of what’s been happening:
Back to the Blocks – 20th September 2026
A large group of our junior and senior swimmers made the trip up the M1 to Moorways pool for the Back to the Blocks open meet – the second year we’ve entered the competition, which just features 50m and 100m races.
B2tB 2026 gave swimmers chance to put skills and techniques that we’ve worked on over the summer into practice – focussing on stroke length, distance per stroke, plus finer tweaks to starts, turns and underwaters. Competition was hot, with the bulk of swimmers representing prestigious clubs Derby Excel and Repton. Nevertheless, we were really proud of Team Neptune’s courageous performances – from 117 swims we had 34 Personal Bests (PBs) and 32 new events swam. Some Neptunes snagged medals and others hit county times as well – not a bad showing for this early in the season.

Club Championships Round 3 – 2nd October 2026
Friday 2 October was Round 3 of the Leicester Neptune Club Championships ’26. Events for this session were 200m Backstroke, 200m Individual Medley, 100m Freestyle, 50m Breaststroke and 100m Butterfly.
We had good representation across the age groups and it was great to see some of our newcomers get stuck in and all swimmers supporting one another.
Leicester League Round 1 – 10th October 2026
Round 1 of the Leicester League kicked off at Hinckley last weekend.
Neptune swimmers put in some excellent performances – carrying on where they left off at the end of last season. Once again, the Men’s Open Team dominated the pool, winning both the Freestyle and Medley relays in some style. Having held third place for a time Neptune eventually slipped to fifth overall, with a lack of numbers in the 9 and under age group making the crucial difference. Nevertheless, Neptune swimmers should be proud of their showing, and their outstanding (and noisy!) team spirit.
A special mention for our debutants – Sean C and Vanshul K who joined us over the summer. Both swam fantastically well. We hoped you enjoyed it and look forward to seeing you back swimming with us soon.
As ever, big thanks go to all the Neptune volunteers who give up their time for these events so everything runs smoothly on the poolside. And to parents, families and friends who support their swimmers week in, week out.
The action continues 17 and 18 October 2026 with the City of Leicester Autumn Open Meet. Check out our Events Calendar for what galas and competitions are coming up before the end of the year.
