Team Competitions or Galas
At team galas, you will swim for Leicester Neptune against other local and regional clubs in various leagues and other competitions/ cups. The galas are made up of individual races and relays for each of the age groups.
Why do it?
Team galas are really fun and exciting because every point in every race counts towards our final ranking or league position. The action is fast and furious, and we encourage you to cheer each other on as much as possible!
How it works
Leicester Neptune enters three competitive leagues each year:
Leicester and District Autumn League
Three rounds between September and December
Age groups: 10 and under; 12 and under; 14 and under; Open (15 and over)
Leicester and District Winter League
Three rounds between January and May
Age groups: 11 and under; 13 and under; 15 and under; Open (16 and over)
Leicester and District Diddy League
Three rounds between February and June
Age groups: 9 and under; 10 and under; 11 and under; 12 and under
The Diddy League is a great introduction to competitive swimming for our younger members.
Other competitions
We also take part in a number of other galas that are arranged during the year.
Team selection and eligibility
Swimmers must be 9 years old before they can take part in team competitions or galas.
The Leicester Neptune squad for each team gala is selected by the Head Coach, and selection is based not just on ability, but also on training attendance and attitude.
Invitations to each gala are sent out in advance via email, and parents/ carers should complete the accompanying Google form to indicate their swimmers’ availability. It’s really important that the Google forms are completed in time – even if the swimmer is unavailable to take part – so that we can send a complete squad.
Costs, dates and timings
There is no cost to swimmers representing Leicester Neptune at team competitions or galas.
The dates of the galas are set in advance by the Leicestershire Amateur Swimming Association (LASA) and can be found on our Events Calendar.
The team galas are usually held on a Saturday, early evening and last 2-3 hours.
