The Club Age Groups Are Here – Good Luck Everybody!
Well what a busy couple of months June and July are! Lots of the management team have been very busy over the last two weeks preparing for tonight’s and tomorrow’s age group galas. These are really important galas as for most of our members, they will be one of the first swimming galas they enter and unlike the leagues where we swim as team, the aim for galas like the age groups is personal improvement. These galas are a great way to learn the ropes, pick up tips from older swimmers and they help us to see the progress that everyone has made. we also have some volunteers in new officiating roles too. So, GOOD LUCK EVERYBODY!
Adding to the business of this weekend, three of the coaching team including myself will be starting coaching courses tomorrow. Good luck to Neil and Sachin who will be starting their ASA Level 2 Coaching Certificate courses in Coventry while I will be starting my Level 2 Open Water Coaching Award in Loughborough. We owe a big thanks to Leicester City Council, who we have just heard have awarded each of us with a £150 grant towards the costs of these qualifications.
Looking ahead, we have the final round of the Leicester and District Diddy League coming up on the 25th of June. We have three teams competing with the A team at Corby, the B team at Braunstone, and the C team at Loughborough, so we will need lots of help with the team management and officiating for these teams. We are very grateful for any volunteers that can help.
In training, we are currently working through the last few weeks of our main training phase before we have a final push ready for the end of season open meets. Sadly, one of are target meets, at Corby has been very over subscribed so we have had to make alternative arrangements for some swimmers to compete at the Chesterfield open meet at Matlock on the 16th and 17th of July instead. Entries for this are now closed and our swimmers will be swimming 90 different events over the weekend.
After these open meets we will have some time for rest, relaxation and refocusing on swimming technique – but it isn’t all hard work. Why not join us at our end of season outing to Mablethorpe? This is a full day outing open to all members on the 21st of August. The bus will leave at 8.00am, returning to Leicester at 9.00pm. For further details, see Steve Bird.
Don’t forget that we are always looking for volunteers, not just on the poolside but in the many admin roles that keep the club running. We are currently looking for a welfare officer to work alongside the current post holder. Training will be given by the ASA and this involves ensuring that the club adheres to national child protection standards and organising online police checks. If you feel that you have the skills to help us with this please contact myself, Jane (welfare officer), or any committee member.
