We finally made it to the end of the swimming season and it’s time to relax, but what a busy month July was! We have had our final pool competitions – some open meets at Corby and Matlock where there were PB’s aplenty, plus the Midland ASA and English National open water competitions. Special mentions to Kate Mc for following in Sam Mc’s footsteps with her first open water competition at the Midlands and also to Maciek who claimed first place in his age group in the 1.5K race. In the middle of all this Neil has become a fully qualified coach by completing his ASA level 2 course.
So what are we doing to relax? First of all, you should have noticed that the intensity of training has dropped slightly and there is currently a bigger emphasis on technique in preparation for a our new training cycle starting at the beginning of September. But more importantly, nothing says rest and relaxation more than our annual trip to Mablethorpe which takes place this Sunday – winning teams have been formed on Mablethorpe beach! There are still spaces on the bus, so if you would like to go please contact Steve Bird as soon as possible. You can call him on 07790216999 or email him on sjbird “at” toucansurf.com (change “at” to @). The weather is meant to be stunning this weekend so make sure you pack the suncream!
Now that things have quietened down, I am hoping to start open water training from this Saturday at a new venue, Mallory Park. The venue is very quiet and there are changing facilities. Training will be for swimmers who can easily swim 650m comfortably so should be in the top junior training lanes or above. The weather should be warm this weekend so wet suits are optional. Training will take place during public swimming time, so parents can also swim if they wish but the lake normally expect you to wear a wet suit unless you are an experienced swimmer. The cost will be £5. Please let me know if you think that you may be interested in this.
Finally, congratulations to Louise and Stewart on their recent marriage!
